Cambridge Surgical Models at Jesus College, University of Cambridge
Earlier in May Cambridge Surgical Models were proud to support medical students at Jesus College, Cambridge, for the third time to help practice and consolidate basic surgical and wound closure skills. With the Cambridge University medicine course following a traditional teaching style where medical sciences are focussed on for the three years, undergraduates receive minimal clinical during that time, making clinical skills orientated workshops well-received learning amongst students in the early years of their medical studies.
Over three workshops in the last 15 months, students have steadily progressed through various suturing techniques, from simple interrupted to subcuticular and in the most recent workshops learnt how to perform aberdeen knots. All workshops have been immensely popular and have served as welcomed breaks by students who often have a busy academic schedule.
Our co-founder and CTO, Dr Senthooran Kathiravelupillai, undertook his undergraduate education in medicine as well as engineering at Jesus College, making it a particularly special occasion when suturing workshops are held for juniors at his college.
With fellow Cambridge-graduated co-founders Dr Mark Golab having studied at Downing College, and Dr Samuel Massey at both Homerton and Pembroke College, the team at Cambridge Surgical Models are proud to continue support medical students at the University of Cambridge from College level to University teaching level.
